Ens preocupa la situació d’una refugiada somali de 23 anys, que el govern d’Austràlia ha enviat a una remota illa del Pacífic pel Govern per fer el seu “processament a l’estranger”.
Va ser alliberada del centre de detenció, però sense lloc a on anar, i va ser agredida i violada en aquesta illa-presó. Ara necessita ajuda i atenció, però el govern australià es nega a ajudar-la. La seva és una de desenes de casos de violació a dones refugiades a Nauru, on hi ha hagut fins a 33 acusacions formals de violació o assalt sexual dins el propi centre de detenció. Això passa quan el mateixen govern australià està duent a terme unacampanya més que publicitada on afirma que pren seriosament el problema de la violència contra les dones.
El 7 d’octubre unes 20 estudiants i defensores de les persones refugiades van ocupar una oficina del Departament d’Immigració i Protecció de Fronteres a Sydney per cridar l’atenció sobre la terrible situació d’aquesta jove. La policia va respondre amb 11 detencions i va empresonar els i les activistes fins a 9 hores. Lluny de detencions, aquestes activistes es mereixen felicitacions per la seva defensa dels drets humans i la justícia per a la jove somali.
Tota la situació és producte de la resposta inhumana del govern australià davant les persones que fugen dels conflictes bèl·lics i la pobresa. Va en la línia de les polítiques igualment brutals de l’anomenada “Fortalesa Europa” que s’estan aplicant a tot el sud de la Unió Europea.
Expressem la nostra solidaritat amb aquesta jove somali i amb tots els éssers humans que estan patint com a resultat d’aquestes polítiques inhumanes. Exigim el respecte als drets humans de totes les persones, independentment del seu origen, gènere, orientació sexual, color de pell, religió …
També expressem la nostra solidaritat amb els moviments i activistes arreu d’Austràlia que estan lluitant contra les polítiques racistes del seu govern i en solidaritat amb els i les sol·licitants d’asil.
Refugee who wanted asylum in Australia, raped on Nauru
We are shocked by the situation of a 23 year old Somalian refugee, sent to a remote pacific island by the Australian Government for “offshore processing”. She was released from the detention centre, but has nowhere to go; she was raped and assaulted on this prison island. She now needs assistance and care, but the Australian government refuses to help her. Hers is one of dozens of cases of rape of women refugees on Nauru, with 33 formal allegations of rape or sexual assault in the detention centre itself. This occurs in the context of a highly publicised campaign by the Australian government that claims to be taking seriously the problem of violence against women.
Yesterday, 7 October, around 20 students and refugee advocates occupied a Department of Immigration and Border Protection office in Sydney to draw attention to this terrible situation. The police responded with 11 arrests, holding activists in cells for up to 9 hours. Rather than being arrested, these activists should be saluted for their defence of human rights and justice for the young Somalian woman.
The whole situation is a product of the inhuman Australian government’s response to people escaping from wars and poverty. It is in line with the equally brutal policies of Fortress Europe being applied across the south of the European Union.
We express our solidarity with this young Somalian, and with all the human beings who are suffering as a result of these inhuman policies. We demand the respect for the human rights of all people, independently of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, skin colour, religion…
We also express our solidarity with the movements and activists across Australia that are fighting against the racist policies of their government, and in solidarity with asylum seekers.
